Getting a film crew to Rapa Nui is not simple. The island sits more than 3,500 kilometres from mainland South America, accessible only by carefully coordinated flights. Cameras, props and period vehicles had to be transported from Santiago in advance. And once you arrive, you are filming next to some of the most culturally sensitive archaeological sites on earth. The production of Wild Horse Nine got there anyway. In early 2025, Easter Island became a film set.

The Rapture was shot exclusively in Wales, supported by Creative Wales, with cast members working across Porthcawl, Port Talbot, Swansea, Pontyclun, Penarth and Margam. Based on Liz Jensen's bestselling 2009 novel, the five-part thriller follows psychologist Dr Gabs Fox, assigned to treat the most dangerous teenager in the country – a girl who claims to foresee catastrophes.

New York, yellow taxis, NYPD vehicles, American flags. On the last weekend of July 2025, pedestrians walking down Bothwell Street in Glasgow could have been forgiven for thinking they had taken a very wrong turn. The city centre had been transformed, street by street, into a convincing approximation of Manhattan. Spider-Man was back. And he was in Scotland.

The story is set in 14th-century England. The cameras were in Bavaria (Germany). Principal photography for Paul Greengrass's The Uprising took place in Bavaria's Franconia region and at Penzing Studios near Munich, beginning in September 2025.

The story is set in Miami. The cameras were mostly in New Jersey. Netflix's 72 Hours – Kevin Hart's comedy about a 40-year-old executive accidentally added to a Gen Z bachelor party group chat – opens July 24, 2026, and pulls off a convincing geographic illusion. Filming ran from April through August 2025, across several New Jersey communities and a brief but essential stretch in actual Miami.

Nana's Deli on South Livingston Avenue was closed for a few days in early July 2025. A Netflix crew had turned the real Livingston Jewish deli into the fictional heart of Don't Say Good Luck. Over the following ten weeks, the production worked its way through Livingston, Ridgewood, Montclair, Paramus, Jersey City and Cranford.

On July 21, 2026, the Instagram account of The Hobbiton Movie Set confirmed what fans had suspected for months: the Hobbiton set – which has remained a popular tourist destination in New Zealand since 2002 – was closed recently as scenes for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum were shot there.

It wrapped with a party in mid-July 2026. Cast and crew photographs appeared on Instagram within hours. After roughly four months of filming, the live-action Gundam movie has officially wrapped production in Queensland, Australia. Working title: Teardrop.

Principal photography on Netflix's thriller The Big Fix with Mark Wahlberg began on April 28, 2026, in Sydney, New South Wales, and ran through late June – before the production extended internationally to Penang, Malaysia in July.

That is the premise of Treasure & Dirt, a new six-part Australian series which premiered on July 19, 2026. And one of the location where it was filmed is an extraordinary place.

Jason Bateman's new Netflix crime-comedy The Cackling of the Dodos filmed in New Jersey from June 1 to July 12, 2026 – six weeks across several communities in Union and Bergen counties. A 2027 Netflix premiere is the most likely window.

A tent encampment appeared at the corner of California and Battery streets in San Francisco's Financial District on July 10, 2026. Tents across all four sides of the intersection. It was the set for 2034, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Netflix AI thriller, wrapping its final chapter in San Francisco after months of principal photography in Serbia and Montenegro.
