The Cackling of the Dodos
Jason Bateman's new Netflix crime-comedy The Cackling of the Dodos filmed in New Jersey from June 1 to July 12, 2026 — six weeks across several communities in Union and Bergen counties. A 2027 Netflix premiere is the most likely window.
The film stars Sam Rockwell as farmer George, whose truly terrible day begins when he discovers a body in his grain bin and is dragged into a chaotic cover-up by his boss Denny, played by Woody Harrelson. Fred Hechinger, Michael McKean, Esther McGregor, Jenn Lyon and Emy Coligado round out the cast. Bateman directs from a screenplay by Rye Curtis (Norma Jeane), with Matthew Libatique — Oscar-nominated cinematographer of Black Swan and A Star Is Born — as DP.
Upper Saddle River
The production's primary location is Upper Saddle River in Bergen County — a borough in the northeast corner of New Jersey. Casting calls specifically sought "that Midwestern feel," with extras recruited for summer exterior scenes in Upper Saddle River. The production shot there across multiple days in June.

Cranford
On the morning of June 10, Jason Bateman and Sam Rockwell descended on Cranford. Rockwel filmed sunny outdoor scenes at Birchwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Birchwood Avenue. Bateman directed. It was, by local accounts, a notable Monday morning on Birchwood Avenue.
The Cackling of the Dodos is expected on Netflix in 2027.
