This self-guided walking tour takes you through the real Prague – the one that played Moscow for Tom Cruise, Paris for Outlander, and Vienna for Mozart. The city Hollywood keeps coming back to because the Communists never tore it down – and the cameras have never stopped rolling since.

Start at Matthias Gate, where Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg disguised themselves as Russian officers to infiltrate the Kremlin in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The courtyard behind Prague Castle’s grand entrance became Moscow in October 2010. Walk left through the gate, and you’re standing where they filmed it – free entry.

Walk down the Prague Steps, where Caitríona Balfe descended into 18th-century Paris in Outlander. The production chose Prague over the real Paris because Napoleon III had demolished medieval Paris in the 19th century – but Prague kept its cobblestones. The episode was called “Not in Scotland Anymore,” a nod to Dorothy’s famous line in The Wizard of Oz. One of several Oz references hidden throughout the series.

Continue to Charles Bridge, where Zendaya and Tom Holland strolled past Baroque statues in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The production filmed under the codename “BOSCO” in September 2018 – a common trick to avoid fan mobs. Filming on the bridge costs 8,000 euros per day, and productions are still lining up. Two miles of riverbank had to be lit for Mission: Impossible decades earlier. Eleven generators. Hundreds of lights. Two weeks of preparation – for one night scene.
