From Glasgow's Streets to a Dorset prison: Where Spider-Man: Brand New Day was filmed

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

New York, yellow taxis, NYPD vehicles, American flags. On the last weekend of July 2025, pedestrians walking down Bothwell Street in Glasgow could have been forgiven for thinking they had taken a very wrong turn. The city centre had been transformed, street by street, into a convincing approximation of Manhattan. Spider-Man was back. And he was in Scotland.

Principal photography began in Glasgow in late July 2025, under the working title Blue Oasis, before moving to Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, it stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker — now four years into fighting crime in a New York that no longer knows his name, following the events of No Way Home — alongside Zendaya as MJ, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and Tramell Tillman of Severance as a new MCU character.

Glasgow

Filming began in Glasgow during the final weekend of July 2025, with areas including Renfield Street, West Regent Street, Bothwell Street, Pitt Street, Blythswood Street, Wellington Street, and the area near the Scottish Event Campus fully dressed for filming. American flags, NYPD vehicles, food carts and yellow taxis were positioned throughout the streets. Storefronts and signage were modified, and crews worked hard to set up locations.

Glasgow City Council confirmed approximately 60 roads were closed during the production.

Specific scenes captured by onlookers and posted to social media included a tank chase sequence on Bothwell Street, which also appeared as the fictional Aurora building. Hutcheson Street contributed the Mul Draws mural visible in production footage. St Vincent Street featured extensively — a real restaurant called Little Tuscany appearing in the film's world. Location filming was initially scheduled to finish on August 15 but was extended until August 26 to accommodate additional sequences.

HMP Dorchester, Kent and Brookwood Cemetery

From the streets of Glasgow to the cells of Dorset. The film's major action sequence — in which Spider-Man battles ninjas to prevent a mass jailbreak — was filmed at HMP Dorchester, a working prison until 2013 that has since found a new life in film and television productions. Filming at the prison began on November 4, 2025, with the scene — Spider-Man fighting ninjas — wrapping several days later.

The Historic Dockyard Chatham — no stranger to film crews — was used for the Punisher's hideout sequences.

At Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey — the largest cemetery in the United Kingdom — Peter Parker visits the grave of his Aunt May. Filming took place in August 2025 across the vast Victorian burial ground.

Basingstoke and London

Fanum House in Basingstoke also appears in the film. In October 2025, cast and crew were spotted filming there — first with Tom Holland's stunt doubles, before Holland joined the crew himself for additional shooting.

London contributes two further confirmed locations. Senate House in Bloomsbury — although digitally stretched skywards in post-production — stands in for the Department of Damage Control headquarters. In autumn 2025, the production also closed West Carriage Drive in Battersea Park for filming.
