Here's where The Shards was filmed in Los Angeles

Kaia Gerber was spotted filming along the Pacific Coast Highway on January 7, 2026, in Los Angeles — wearing high-waisted jeans, a purple top and a dark jacket, filming in a car alongside co-star Homer Gere. The Pacific Coast Highway stretchs of Route 1 running along the Malibu coastline between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Fans spotted filming at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach, where the production styled the mall to resemble the Sherman Oaks Galleria — the San Fernando Valley shopping centre that became an enduring symbol of 1980s teen culture and sits close to the world Ellis grew up in. The South Bay Galleria, a working retail centre currently undergoing significant redevelopment, provided the right bones for a period recreation.

The story follows a 17-year-old version of Ellis during his final year at the elite Buckley prep school — the real Sherman Oaks institution where Ellis himself attended in the early 1980s and which sits at the heart of the novel's world. The production did not film at the actual Buckley School but used Occidental College on 1600 Campus Road in Los Angeles.

In October 2025, the production moved to Westwood, filming at the corner of Weyburn Avenue and Broxton Avenue. The theatre next to the Taco Bell was transformed into an 1980s cinema.

The wider Bel-Air, Sherman Oaks and Beverly Hills geography that the characters inhabit — the family mansions, the gated driveways, the private parties in houses that seem to exist outside ordinary consequences — provided the production's primary visual environment across the September 2025 to early 2026 shoot.

The Shards premieres with two episodes on August 5, 2026, at 9pm on FX and Hulu.
