“Usually we come up here for a week and make it look like we’re filming in San Francisco. Not this year. We are here all the time, all of the streets,” Ted Danson said in an Instagram video with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie. Then he invited his wife and co-star Mary Steenburgen on camera, where she revealed that she fell in love with Danson in San Francisco.
A Man on the Inside – Netflix’s hit comedy-mystery created by Mike Schur about a retired professor who becomes a private investigator’s mole – filmed its third and final season across San Francisco on a 28-day shooting schedule, wrapping the week of October 28, 2026. For two seasons, the show was set in San Francisco but filmed mostly in Los Angeles. Season 3 reversed that entirely.
“San Francisco, you did not disappoint!” Steenburgen wrote on Instagram on October 28. “From our welcome by the San Francisco Film Commission and Mayor Lurie … to the goodbyes from the folks at The Fairmont, our time there was warm and fun and thrilling.”
Danson returns as Charles Nieuwendyk alongside Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, Eugene Cordero, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sally Struthers and Mary Steenburgen. Season 3 guest stars include Nick Offerman, Bernadette Peters, Rachel Dratch and Annette O’Toole. A 2027 Netflix premiere is expected.
