Where was Harry Potter filmed? The confirmed filming locations from HBO's new series

Many of the buildings at Oxford University are several centuries old, and that makes them absolutely perfect for a Hogwarts production. Oxford contributed extensively to the original film series — the Divinity School, Duke Humfrey Library, New College and Bodley Staircase at Christ Church College — and the HBO production returned to the university for the same reason. Its medieval stone architecture, its cloisters and its quadrangles photograph as Hogwarts without requiring set dressing.

Around August 2025, filming came to King's Cross Station. This is where the secret Platform 9¾ is located, and during his very first visit, Harry meets several of the Weasleys. The process of filming at King's Cross gave us our first look at Katherine Parkinson's Molly Weasley, accompanied by the actors playing Fred, George, Ron, Percy and Ginny Weasley.

Berrybushes Farm in Langleybury Lane, near Hunton Bridge, was leased by Warner Bros. — the farm has previously been used for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Fast X. The location was used to construct major outdoor sets. Filming lasted 24 days.

Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, was transformed into Little Whinging — the fictional Surrey suburb where the Dursleys live. Springfield Gardens in Upminster stood in for Privet Drive, where Harry grew up with the Dursleys. The location was used for external shots only, shot in August 2025, while the actual cast scenes for Privet Drive were filmed on the set at Leavesden. 

One of the earliest confirmed locations is Hemel Hempstead School, where filming took place in late July 2025. The production filmed both inside and outside the school for scenes set at the Muggle primary school Harry attends before Hogwarts. The trailer already shows scenes filmed here, with Harry being chased by Dudley and a group of bullies.

Among the public filming locations was the London Zoo, where the Dursleys took Dudley and Harry for a birthday celebration. Actors Bel Powley (Petunia), Daniel Rigby (Vernon), Amos Kitson (Dudley) and Dominic McLaughlin (Harry) were all spotted.

McLaughlin was seen with Nick Frost's Hagrid along Borough High Street and Southwark Street in London in August 2025, filming scenes from Harry's first outing with Hagrid after discovering he is a wizard.

In the trailer we see Harry and Hagrid leave a underground station. This was shot at Villiers Street in London, next to Charing Cross Station.

It is confirmed that HBO did some filming at the Old Magistrates Court in July 2025, though it isn't known for certain it was for Harry Potter season 1. The popular theory is that the formal architecture will serve as the show's version of the Ministry of Magic.

Windsor Great Park's heavy woodlands and rolling landscapes were used to film sequences set on the Hogwarts grounds. Cast and crew were spotted around the forest edges, suggesting this location was used for Forbidden Forest scenes.

Filming took place at multiple locations around Malham Cove and at Gordale Scar simultaneously, with a second unit working at the same time. A short scene of a witch casting a spell was filmed here in October 2025. The limestone pavement atop Malham Cove featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1, and the HBO production has returned to this dramatic Yorkshire landscape.

Cadgwith, Cornwall, was used for filming between October 6 and 10, with simulated rain staged on the beach near the Cadgwith Cove Inn. Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby and Amos Kitson were seen alongside a stand-in double for McLaughlin, filming the sequence where the Dursleys flee to escape Harry's Hogwarts letters. On the nearby Lizard Peninsula, John Lithgow was spotted as Albus Dumbledore for the first time. The beach setting serves as a meeting place for Dumbledore and his old friend Nicolas Flamel.

In October 2025, a Dartmoor village was taken over by filming crews and decorated for Halloween. The reported decor and traditional thatched cottages of Lustleigh suggest this location was used to recreate Godric's Hollow on the night Lily and James Potter were killed.
