Manchester, Saltburn and the North of England: The filming locations of Netflix's Roald Dahl series

Roald Dahl series

Station Square in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. A police station somewhere in Manchester. And more locations across the North of England still to come before the mid-December wrap. Netflix's untitled Roald Dahl adult drama – filming since mid-August 2026 under the working title Zoltar – is using the North of England to build its world of twisted adult short stories.

The six-episode series comes from Orchid Pictures, written by Danny Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once, Run Away), with Suzanne Mackie (The Crown) and Gabriel Silver executive producing. Directors Ben Gregor and Runyararo Mapfumo share episodes, with Frank Lamm as Director of Photography. The cast includes Nicola Coughlan, Naomi Scott, Toby Jones, Josh Finan, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Carmen Ejogo and Arthur Hughes.

Netflix's official logline: "This series weaves a deliciously twisted tale made up of Roald Dahl's iconic adult short stories. It follows a young couple who find themselves marooned in a faded seaside town."

Saltburn-by-the-Sea

On September 9, the production moved to Saltburn-by-the-Sea in North Yorkshire – the Victorian coastal town that is standing in for the series' fictional faded seaside setting. Filming took place in Station Square, at the heart of Saltburn's Victorian seafront.

The scale of the Saltburn shoot was visible across the town: lighting rigs and crew tents filled Station Square.

North of England

Beyond Manchester and Saltburn, the production plans to film at further locations across the North of England before wrapping in mid-December 2026. No additional specific locations have been announced.

No title or release date has been confirmed. Mid-to-late 2027 is the most realistic premiere window.
