Manchester, Saltburn and the North of England: The filming locations of Netflix's Roald Dahl series

Cameras started rolling in Manchester in mid-August 2026, with Nicola Coughlan and Arthur Hughes among the first cast members confirmed on set. Set photographs from the Manchester shoot show Coughlan sporting a prosthetic baby bump and carrying a large floral duffel bag, in a chaotic scene involving a barking black German Shepherd police dog on the steps of a police station.

On September 9, the production moved to Saltburn-by-the-Sea in North Yorkshire – the Victorian coastal town that is standing in for the series' fictional faded seaside setting. Naomi Scott’s character was filmed sprinting down the pavement past The Railway Café – the shoot taking place directly in front of Saltburn station on Station Square. Later in September, Toby Jones and Nicola Coughlan were spotted filming around the Lower Promenade, west of Saltburn Pier.

On September 16, the production took over Whitby’s historic old town – the Market Place, Church Street, Sandgate and Cliffe Street. On Cliffe Street, a scene involving a pig in a pram was filmed. The Old Town Hall was transformed into a theatrical stage with giant paper animal puppets. The Rumours gift shop at 96 Church Street was rebranded as Connie’s Gifts – dressed with footballs, inflatables and buckets and spades for sale. Dame Imelda Staunton and Nicola Coughlan were spotted in costume near the Old Town Hall.

The following day, September 17, production moved to Scarborough. Crews transformed Eastborough and William Street, and filmed at one of Scarborough’s most recognisable landmarks – the Harbour Bar on the seafront. The Harbour Bar, the town’s beloved ice cream parlour and café, provided the production with an irreplaceable piece of British seaside character.

No title or release date has been confirmed. Mid-to-late 2027 is the most realistic premiere window.
