Will Ferrell teed off in Los Angeles: The filming locations of Netflix's The Hawk
The Hawk
Will Ferrell's first television comedy series starts with a simple, almost painful premise. Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins was the world's number one golfer in 2004. His body says retire. His heart says absolutely not. And somewhere in Los Angeles, between September and December 2025, a film crew followed him around golf courses and fairways to document what a man in that particular kind of denial looks like.
Principal photography began on September 8, 2025, and wrapped on December 17. The series was filmed entirely within California and Connecticut, securing a $17.1 million tax credit from the California Film Commission — among the larger single-series awards the state has recently issued, reflecting the scale of the production and the ongoing push to keep major productions on California soil.
Spanish Hills Club, Camarillo
The production's primary golf location is Spanish Hills Club in Camarillo — a private course in Ventura County, roughly an hour northwest of Los Angeles. A member of the club's local golf community documented the experience writing: "We were treated to fantastic playing conditions under beautiful weather the week of filming Will Ferrell's upcoming golf Netflix series. The film set featured authentic looking grandstands, TV towers, Hole-In-One Car… the works." The event — a local golf tournament on October 27, 2025 — was held while the production was actively filming.
Spanish Hills Club served as the location for the show's climactic final championship rounds, providing the full visual infrastructure of a major tournament: grandstands, broadcast towers, sponsor signage, roped galleries.

Montecito Club, Santa Barbara and Sherwood Country Club, Thousand Oaks
The Montecito Club in Santa Barbara — an exclusive private club in one of California's wealthiest communities — was used for its expansive great lawns, golf course features, and luxurious clubhouse exterior scenes. The club's manicured grounds and elegant architecture gave the production the visual shorthand it needed for the elite competitive world Lonnie is trying to re-enter.
Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks — a Jack Nicklaus-designed private course in the Conejo Valley, surrounded by mature oaks and long associated with Tiger Woods' charity tournament — provided further visual variety for the series' country club world.
The Hawk premieres on Netflix on July 16, 2026. All ten episodes.
