Red swimsuits are back on Venice Beach: Where Fox's Baywatch reboot was filmed

The original ran for eleven seasons, made the slow-motion beach run an international cultural shorthand, and was watched by more than a billion people a week at its peak. The new Baywatch production is based at Fox's studios in Century City, with all beach work filmed on location across the Southern California coast in March and April 2026.
Venice Beach is the primary filming location for the reboot, with the Historic Venice Lifeguard Operations Station serving as a central backdrop. The cast was spotted filming on Venice Beach in March 2026, with Livvy Dunne posting Instagram behind-the-scenes photographs from the sand and Backgrid photographers capturing the full cast at work on the beach.
Reports emerged in April 2026 that the series had encountered issues filming in Venice Beach, prompting Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to intervene directly. "I'm pleased that Baywatch will continue to film right here on Venice Beach. When I heard there were issues with Baywatch filming in Los Angeles, my Office took immediate action with Councilmember Park to clear any City-related barriers, including making parking easier and more affordable for the production," Bass wrote on X on April 10. The City of Los Angeles then confirmed that production would continue as planned. The production has been awarded $21 million in tax credits to film in Los Angeles.
The Venice Lifeguard Operations Station is a historically significant location — the original red-painted building on the beachfront that has served as the operational base for Los Angeles County lifeguards for decades.

The beach
On April 15, 2026, production crews moved north to Santa Monica Beach, filming just north of the Santa Monica Pier at tower 6. The tower 6 area sits on one of the most recognisable stretches of Santa Monica coastline.
It would be fun if Will Rogers State Beach on Santa Monica Bay — the primary filming site for the original series across its first nine seasons — also features in this series. But we have no confirmation about that yet.
The Fox Studios Century City
The production is headquartered at Fox's studios in Century City, where interior scenes, controlled-environment work and technical sequences are filmed alongside the beach location work.
Baywatch premieres on Fox in January 2027.
