From Tokyo's sidestreets to the Bosphorus: Where Apple TV+'s Neuromancer was filmed
Neuromancer
In January 2025, forty-one years after William Gibson published his novel, Apple TV+ announced that it had started filming the series based on the novel Neuromancer in Tokyo, with Callum Turner and Emma Laird confirming weeks of work there. Current coverage confirmed global shoots until the end of 2025 across Tokyo, Los Angeles, Istanbul, Canada and London.
The ten-episode series is created by Graham Roland (Jack Ryan, Fringe) and J.D. Dillard, with Callum Turner as Case and Briana Middleton as Molly. Peter Sarsgaard plays Wintermute. Mark Strong plays Armitage. Drake and his DreamCrew partner Future are executive producers.

Tokyo
Filming began in Tokyo — fitting not just geographically, but spiritually. Tokyo is Gibson's dream rendered in chrome and shadow. The novel opens in Chiba City — a fictional Japanese port town where Case has washed up after burning his neural pathways, unable to jack into the matrix, working the wrong side of the law among black clinics and neon-lit alleys. Chiba City doesn't exist, but Tokyo does. The filming took place there, but no specific locations have been confirmed.

United Kingdom
The production filmed across the UK in Swindon, Reading and London. As for now, we can confirm three locations — an abandoned leisure center in Swindon, a historic prison in Reading, and the glass towers of Canary Wharf in London — each bringing a completely different visual register to the production.
The first location is the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon — the closed-down complex that film crews and lighting rigs visited multiple times in February and March 2025. The Oasis, once one of the UK's most distinctive indoor leisure facilities with its tropical theme and wave pool, has been derelict since its closure. In the trailer, a glimpse of what appears to be the complex's abandoned swimming pool is visible.
In Reading, production crews set up around localized spots including Reading Prison and Union Street. Reading Prison — the Victorian jail where Oscar Wilde served two years and wrote De Profundis — has been closed since 2013 and has since become an arts venue and events space. The production was also presumed to have been filming at the Padel Hub, just south of the tunnel under the railway — an industrial-edge location on Reading's urban fringe.
In April 2025, the crew moved to Canary Wharf in London — filming near the Westferry Circus car park on Cabot Square and in and around One Canada Square, the landmark 235-meter tower that defined London's financial skyline when it opened in 1991.
We also suspect that filming took place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre athletics stadium in South London,, but we cannot confirm this at this stage. A production crew shot a sequence on the iconic outdoor running track during the first half of 2025 under the working title "Icebreaker". To fit the cyberpunk aesthetic, the surrounding background was heavily altered using CGI, superimposing a dense dystopian megacity skyline reminiscent of Tokyo Bay over the park's actual landscape.
Istanbul, Canada and Los Angeles
Also, Istanbul, Canada, and Los Angeles are used for filming, but no specific locations are confirmed.
Neuromancer is expected on Apple TV+ in late 2026
