A superyacht in Vilanova i la Geltrú and an auditorio in Tenerife: The Spanish filming locations of Day Drinker

The first confirmed filming activity began on Monday April 7, 2025, when Johnny Depp was seen near Las Raíces road in Tenerife – a stretch of road that was temporarily closed to traffic for safety. The scene involved artificially simulated weather conditions: two large water tankers flooding the road to create a moody, rain-drenched atmosphere for what appeared to be car chase sequences.

Production then moved to the Auditorio de Tenerife in Santa Cruz – Calatrava's spectacular wave-shaped concert hall on the waterfront, which served double duty in the film: as itself, and as a stand-in for Zurich.

The first image of the film – Depp in character, holding a drink – was taken on the second floor of the Auditorio, the actor's return to a major Hollywood production announced from one of the most architecturally striking buildings in Spain. Large movements of vehicles and security personnel around the building offered the first public clues that the production was using the full Calatrava interior alongside its dramatic seafront exterior. Filming on Tenerife continued until the end of April before production moved to the mainland.

In early May 2025, the production arrived in Vilanova i la Geltrú – the seaside Catalan town south of Barcelona historically known as Little Havana, its seafront and manor houses making it one of the most distinctive coastal communities on the Garraf coast. For a week, the marina and promenade became the operational centre of the film shoot.

A set was located on a superyacht docked at the Pendennis facilities in Vilanova Grand Marina, with production activity taking over a large stretch of the seafront near the port. Footage from May 5 shows Depp in a white suit being handcuffed by police on deck. Other clips captured him in a blue jacket and beanie leaving the yacht. Penélope Cruz was also present on set.

A port near Barcelona was also used for additional scenes during the same period.

Filming also seems to have taken place in Madrid in June 2025. During a break from shooting, Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp visited the Museo Reina Sofía together – a behind-the-scenes moment that circulated widely and suggested the two were finding time between takes to engage with the city's cultural life. Madrid's urban environments provided the production's final mainland Spain chapter before filming wrapped by October 2025.
