Superman filmed in a prison, a library and a terminal station: Here's where Man of Tomorrow was filmed

James Gunn confirmed it on Threads with characteristic brevity: "That's a wrap on principal photography for Man of Tomorrow. Truly a joyful experience and I have immense gratitude to my cast and crew." The accompanying photographs showed Nicholas Hoult – Lex Luthor himself – swimming in a lake at the final day's filming location. Gunn confirmed the shoot took 93 days – one day more than Superman.
Man of Tomorrow forces Superman – David Corenswet – and his imprisoned nemesis Lex Luthor – Nicholas Hoult – to reluctantly team up against Brainiac, the hyper-intelligent extraterrestrial android played by German actor Lars Eidinger. Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane. The ensemble includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Adria Arjona as Maxima and Milly Alcock returning as Kara Zor-El.
Principal photography began on April 17, 2026, under the working title Exodus, at Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia.
In April 2026, the production filmed inside a real federal prison — a small section of the Federal Correctional Institution in Atlanta. Inmates were reportedly upset that the production had disrupted their daily routines. The prison scene appears to establish where Lex Luthor ended up after the events of the first film.
Trilith Studios in Fayetteville — the 700-acre purpose-built production facility south of Atlanta — served as the primary base throughout the 93-day shoot. Gunn confirmed cameras rolling on April 20 with a behind-the-scenes image showing a chessboard, a Lex Luthor inmate ID badge and a box bearing the Brainiac logo — hinting at an early scene in which Superman visits his imprisoned nemesis to recruit him against a greater threat.

On June 6, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult filmed on location at the Central Artist Residency at the Fulton County Library in Atlanta — Superman and Lex Luthor continuing their street-level confrontation in Metropolis.
From July 15 to 17, the production filmed interior scenes at the historic Terminal Station in Macon, Georgia — the Beaux-Arts railway station that served as the Daily Planet newsroom in the previous Superman film. The landmark reprised its role, with approximately 100 local extras brought in and road and sidewalk closures in place around 5th Street, MLK Boulevard and Poplar Street to accommodate the shoot. The Daily Planet's newsroom — one of the franchise's most essential recurring environments — was built from the same Macon station that established it in the first film.
Cincinnati is confirmed as a filming location, where the production used the historic Cincinnati Union Terminal – once again doubling as the Hall of Justice, continuing a tradition established in the previous film.
The United Kingdom is confirmed as a filming location, with Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. scenes split across ten weeks between the UK and Georgia. Lars Eidinger filmed his Brainiac sequences from May through August 2026. Specific UK locations have not been publicly confirmed.
Man of Tomorrow opens in cinemas on July 9, 2027.
