The script was finished on June 27, 2025. Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson posted the blurred title page on Instagram with the caption “Partners in Crime (Fighters).” Principal photography began on June 12, 2026. Filming took primarily place on soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with extensive location shooting across England and Scotland.
Principal photography began following years of delays attributed to the lengthy script process, the 2023 Hollywood strikes and Reeves’s personal circumstances. The working title is Semper Vigilans – believed to be a reference to the Court of Owls.
The Batman: Part II is directed by Matt Reeves, produced by Warner Bros., DC Entertainment and 6th & Idaho Productions. Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Andy Serkis returns as Alfred. Colin Farrell returns as the Penguin. Sebastian Stan is confirmed as Harvey Dent. Brian Tyree Henry is confirmed in an undisclosed role. Reeves has described the sequel as “a really radical retelling of Batman” centring more on Bruce Wayne than prior films.
On October 5, DC Studios announced that production was “temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter.” Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has stepped in to complete the final weeks of principal photography.

Production designer Luke Hull was location scouting by late November 2025 at Glasgow Cathedral and Anderston railway station. Three weeks of filming began on August 18, with confirmed locations published through Glasgow City Council road closure notices:
From August 2 through the end of the month: Bothwell Street between Blythswood Street and Wellington Street; St Vincent Street between Douglas Street and Hope Street; Wellington Street between Cadogan Street and West Regent Street; West Campbell Street between Waterloo Street and West George Street; Pitt Street between Bishop Lane and Bothwell Street.
From August 27 to 29: Broomielaw between Oswald Street and Jamaica Street; Clyde Place between George V Bridge and Glasgow Bridge; Glasgow Bridge west side; Robertson Street east side.
From August 28 to September 6: Washington Street between Broomielaw and Balaclava Street.
Glasgow Bridge, Broomielaw, Newton Street under the Kingston Bridge, North Street, Pitt Street and the National Cycle Network Route 75 along the River Clyde all feature in the confirmed location roster. Glasgow Cathedral and Anderston station – scouted in late 2025 – are also confirmed.

The weekend of September 12 and 13 turned central London into Gotham City. The most significant location was St Paul’s Cathedral – Christopher Wren’s Baroque masterpiece on Ludgate Hill, dressed as the Gotham Bar Association with crowds of extras gathered around the steps with placards bearing slogans including “One Day the Poor Will Have Nothing” and “The Rich Are Getting Richer.” But the detail that sent the internet into speculation was a sign reading “Court of Fowls” – potentially confirming the villainous Court of Owls will appear in the sequel. If it is not a plot confirmation, it is, as one fan publication noted, “one hell of an Easter Egg.”
Bruce Wayne’s custom 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray was also spotted on set – a vehicle suggesting the sequel gives the billionaire considerably more public presence than the first film.
Cameras also rolled at Freemasons’ Hall on Great Queen Street in Covent Garden – the Art Deco masterpiece built between 1927 and 1933 as a memorial to Freemasons who died in the First World War. Freemasons’ Hall appeared earlier in 2026 standing in for a Crown Court in Only Murders in the Building season 6. In The Batman Part II, it apparently serves a darker institutional purpose.
In early October, Bank Station was transformed into a snowy Gotham City. Videos shared on social media on October 4 showed the iconic London Underground station given a dramatic Gotham makeover – fake snow on the ground, signs for the fictional Gotham Transit Authority and references to the fictional Bank of Gotham throughout. Footage appeared to show a Batman stunt double making his way toward a subway entrance. A second unit filmed Batman on a GCPD motorcycle being chased through the station – Bank doubling for Union Square, Downtown Gotham.
Interior and set scenes have also been filmed at Queen Alexandra’s House in South Kensington – the Victorian residential building adjacent to the Royal Albert Hall, originally built in 1884 as accommodation for female music students at the Royal College of Music. GCPD officers and stunt equipment were spotted around the location during the shoot.
Filming is scheduled at Central Hall Westminster – the grand Edwardian building directly opposite the Houses of Parliament on Parliament Square – during the weekend of October 24 and 25, under the production codename Semper Vigilans. The southern end of Storey’s Gate, running to Parliament Green, will be closed for the duration.
Second unit filming and a technical recce took place at the old Birkenhead Tunnel and St George’s Hall from May 20, featuring vehicles with GCPD decals and yellow taxi cabs. Rick English – Pattinson’s stunt double – was spotted on set in gear ready for scenes.
Filming around the old Birkenhead Tunnel and the Liverpool City Region took place during the week of July 20, before production moved to the Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn, Cheshire. Liverpool has now hosted three consecutive DC productions: The Batman in 2020, Clayface around Derby Square in 2025 and now The Batman: Part II.
The Batman: Part II opens February 18, 2028.
