The Gibsons Public Library is where Cassandra works, and the production used the real building for filming her workplace scenes from episode one onwards – including real librarians in the background.
The Gibsons Public Market appears in multiple episodes across both seasons – from a season one scene where Karl and Cassandra spot a familiar painting for sale, to the public and closed-door council meetings that feature in season two.
High Beam Dreams – the Gibsons event space – was redesigned for a high school reunion scene in season one. The exterior and surroundings of Andy’s Plaza on Gibsons Way also featured, with other local businesses visible in the background of the scene.
Marine Drive and Gower Point Road in Gibsons provided various streetscape and local business backdrops throughout both seasons.
Multiple scenes take place on the Gibsons Seawalk. Karl and Cassandra are seen strolling along it in season two. Season one featured a body found near Smitty’s Oyster House and Gibsons Marina. The crew also filmed on the pier and inside Joe’s on the Beach.
The wedding in season two was filmed at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort – located at 5356 Ole’s Cove Road in Halfmoon Bay, one of the Sunshine Coast’s most distinctive accommodation properties.
The production also filmed in Sechelt – the Sunshine Coast’s largest community north of Gibsons. The Twenty Two Taphouse in Sechelt was used for season two, its lounge space appearing in the series as the Gibsons Club. Cowrie Street in Sechelt – the town’s main commercial strip – provided walking and shopping scenes. Like Gibsons, Sechelt’s actual streetscape appears on screen largely undressed.
Roberts Creek – the peaceful rural community between Gibsons and Sechelt – served as a filming location for water scenes. Porpoise Bay, the sheltered inlet near Sechelt, provided additional on-the-water filming environments.
Murder in a Small Town seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now. No premiere date has been announced for season 3.
