Bolton, Manchester and Liverpool: The filming locations of Netflix's The Woods
The Woods
The Woods — an eight-episode limited series adapting Harlan Coben's 2007 novel — is now in production in Manchester and the North West of England. Filming kicked off on April 28, beginning in Bolton, with the rest of the series also filming throughout the North of England.
Filming kicked off on April 28, beginning in Bolton, with the rest of the series also filming throughout the North of England. Directed by Michelle Keegan, and written by Danny Brocklehurst — who previously adapted Coben's Fool Me Once, Run Away and Stay Close.
The story follows top barrister Paul 'Cope' Copeland — played by Tom Bateman — whose life was turned upside down when his sister Camille disappeared from a summer camp twenty years ago. Now a father to ten-year-old Cami, Cope seems to have his life back in order — until a man's body is discovered, a man who was supposed to have died twenty years previously alongside Camille. Knowing that this man survived, Cope begins to suspect that his sister did too.

Bolton and Birkenhead
Film crews were spotted in Bolton's Le Mans Crescent in the opening weeks of production — the sweeping Art Deco curve of civic buildings that has become one of the most filmed streets in the North of England.
Bolton has earned its nickname as the Hollywood of the North legitimately: Netflix crews alone spent 88 days filming in Bolton in 2023, and the town has hosted productions including Happy Valley, Fool Me Once, Missing You, The Reckoning, Gentleman in Moscow and Alma's Not Normal. The cobblestones and grand curved architecture of Le Mans Crescent, Victoria Square and the town hall have appeared in dozens of productions.
In may, 2026 filming was spotted at Hamilton Square in Birkenhead.

Manchester and Knutsford
In late June, Michelle Keegan was spotted filming on Mount Street in Manchester, which had been dressed to look like a university.
On August 11, the production moved to Knutsford — the market town in Cheshire East, fourteen miles southwest of Manchester, known for its Georgian and Victorian architecture, its independent shops and its narrow King Street and Princess Street at the heart of the town centre. Tom Bateman, Michelle Keegan and James Buckley were spotted sharing a laugh and having coffee in between takes on Minshull Street in Knutsford, with scenes filmed in the town centre.
Liverpool
End-of-May filming took place at St George's Hall. On july 21 2026, the crew took over another piece of Liverpool. Filming took place on the corner of Faulkner Street and Hope Street, outside Papillion.
The Woods is expected on Netflix in 2027, most likely around New Year's Day, consistent with the streamer's established pattern for British Coben thrillers.
