Barcelona becomes more than a backdrop for the new series La Vida Barcelona

Just-announced. La Vida Barcelona, a new romantic dramedy series, finished shooting in Barcelona this week and is now heading to Amsterdam to complete production. The series follows Julia, a young Dutch designer sent to Barcelona by her mother to undermine a rival agency — only to find herself falling in love with the city, her new job, and two different men, setting off a chain of unexpected events.
Beta Film has come on board to handle world sales on the series, which is directed by Katina Medina Mora — known for her work on Emily in Paris, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and XO, Kitty — alongside Charlotte Scott-Wilson, who directed Tribeca winner Hold On, and Ayla Spaans. The cast is led by Dutch actress Holly Mae Brood as Julia, alongside Priscilla Delgado and Greta Fernández.
Director Katina Medina Mora made the role of the city explicit. "Barcelona becomes much more than a backdrop," she said. "Its energy, culture, and sense of possibility transform Julia's journey and allow her to discover parts of herself she didn't know were there. It gives her the freedom to explore who she is outside of the expectations she grew up with."
Beta Film executive Justus Riesenkampff framed the ambitions clearly: "With top talents attached such as Emily in Paris' director Katina Medina Mora and Euphoria's Priscilla Delgado, the show is set to compete with premium English-language productions in the genre. Barcelona provides the perfect backdrop to attract younger audiences from around the world."

Beneath the romance and the rival agencies, producer Van Bommel of Millstreet Films points to something more personal. "La Vida Barcelona is a feel-good series, emotionally grounded in a modern mother-daughter relationship. It's a story about ambition, identity, and the courage to find your own voice. At the same time, it is a truly female-driven project, in front of as well as behind the camera, which is important for us at Millstreet Films."
No premiere date has been confirmed yet.
