1860s Birmingham was filmed across the West Midlands: The filming locations of The Cadburys

The Cadburys

Eight years in development. One of Britain’s most recognisable stories. And it was filmed on location across the West Midlands and Staffordshire – in a Dudley manor house, a Stafford civic hall, and the canal-side streets of Birmingham’s Digbeth.

The Cadburys is a six-episode drama following the Cadbury family – the underdogs of the cocoa world – on their journey toward creating the world-famous Cadbury’s chocolate bar. Based on Deborah Cadbury’s book Chocolate Wars and previously developed under that working title, the series premieres on UKTV and BritBox in 2027. Production filmed entirely on location in Birmingham and the West Midlands across 12 weeks.

Set in Birmingham during the 1860s, the story follows brothers Richard and George Cadbury as they take responsibility for their family’s failing cocoa business at a time when modern chocolate had yet to be created. Harry Gilby plays George. Toby Regbo plays Richard. Jessica Barden plays Maria. Ben Hardy, Mathew Baynton, Joanna Scanlan, Poppy Gilbert, Pearce Quigley and Felicity Montagu complete the ensemble. Executive produced by Faye Ward, Freddie Highmore, Hannah Price and Claire Londy. Written by Chloë Mi Lin Ewart (All Creatures Great and Small, Beyond Paradise).

Wordsley Manor

Wordsley Manor – the Grade II-listed historic manor in the Stourbridge area of Dudley borough – served as the primary location for the Cadbury family home. Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, welcomed the production: “We have been delighted to welcome the cast and crew of The Cadburys and it was great to see filming taking place here at Wordsley Manor.”

Chillington Hall also contributed location work alongside Wordsley.

Stourbridge and Digbeth

In July 2026, actors in Victorian costume were spotted by locals on Scotts Road in Stourbridge – the street that is home to the town’s historic Quaker Meeting House. Crews were also spotted at Stourbridge Rugby Club on Bridgnorth Road in Stourton, used as a production base.

Co-producer Claire Campbell confirmed the Digbeth location to the Express & Star: “We have been in Digbeth. We found our chocolate factory home location.” Fazeley Street and the Junction Works in Birmingham’s Digbeth area was used for filming.

Stafford and Wolverhampton

In September 2026, parts of Stafford town centre were transformed into Victorian street scenes. Martin Street and St Martins Place in Stafford were closed and dressed for filming, with production crews using the town’s historic streets to recreate 1860s Birmingham scenes.

Production crews were also spotted in Wolverhampton, with the Severn Valley Railway – the preserved steam railway running between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth through the Severn Valley. Campbell confirmed the full regional spread: “We’ve shot in Wolverhampton, we’ve shot in Stafford and we’ve shot in Stoke. We’ve been all over the region in the 12 weeks that we’ve been filming.”

The Cadburys premieres on UKTV and BritBox in 2027. Filming has wrapped.
