This self-guided walking tour takes you through the real New Orleans – the one that soundtracked every chase, seasoned every scene, and killed a man at his own funeral. The city where jazz plays louder than the director and every street corner smells like powdered sugar and plot twists.

Start at the French Market, where Jon Favreau and his on-screen son shared beignets from Café du Monde in Chef. The New Orleans shoot lasted two days in July 2013. Favreau said afterwards: “I’ve never had so much salt in my life – my clothes didn’t fit after.” Chef Roy Choi, who co-produced the film, oversaw every dish. Nothing was fake. Nothing was catered.

Walk to Café du Monde, where Woody Harrelson hypnotised tourists for pocket money in Now You See Me. The scene was filmed on January 24, 2012, while the café was still open for business – real customers eating beignets two tables away from a con man at work. Irish mentalist Keith Barry coached Harrelson on the role and even prepped him for a live performance on Letterman to promote the film.

Continue to the Louisiana Supreme Court, where Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman faced off in Runaway Jury. The building was still under construction when filming began – the City of New Orleans let the production team finish the lobby and hallways themselves. Director Gary Fleder said the city’s duality of beauty and corruption mirrored the film perfectly. Hoffman and Hackman had been classmates at drama school decades earlier. Both were voted “Least Likely to Succeed.”
