The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig and starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, transforms scenic New Jersey settings into its tense thriller backdrop. Filming kicked off on January 3, 2025, and wrapped in March across Bergen and Morris Counties .
Early scenes were filmed in Ridgewood, notably at Green Way Markets and the iconic Rutt’s Hut hot‑dog joint—locations also used in other high-profile productions. Ridgewood's charming streets and storefronts give the film a believable small-town vibe.
The cast and crew also set up shop in Montclair, Morristown (including The Peck School), and East Hanover bowling lanes—areas known for historic architecture and versatile filming zones. Morristown’s mix of tree-lined streets, historic farms, and the Morristown National Historical Park provided both suburban and atmospheric visuals .
Additional locations such as Cresskill and a studio in Jersey City offered controlled indoor settings . New Jersey’s generous tax incentives and supportive local film offices made it an ideal production choice.
