Filming cozy crime in the English countryside

In The Thursday Murder Club, the luxurious retirement community of Coopers Chase comes to life through the grandeur of Englefield House and its beautifully landscaped grounds in Berkshire. With its Elizabethan architecture and tranquil setting—complete with adjacent gardens, a church, and a purpose-built graveyard—the estate perfectly captures the bucolic charm of the novel.

While the exterior of Coopers Chase is real, much of the interior—including the characters’ unique apartments and the iconic glass-paneled “Jigsaw Room” orangery—was crafted on set, both on location and at Shepperton Studios. Production designer James Merifield skillfully blended actual interiors with set extensions to ensure seamless transitions.

Some interior scenes of Coopers Chase, such as those featuring the pool and richly decorated rooms, were filmed at Gaddesden Place, a stately home located in Hertfordshire.

The peaceful community of Aldbury, Hertfordshire, serves as the backdrop for the fictional village of Fairhaven.

Scenes depicting local pubs and town life were filmed in Little Missenden, particularly at its historic Red Lion pub. Nearby Beaconsfield also contributed picturesque village street backdrops, including a car chase sequence on Stratton Road.

For vehicle stunts and more dramatic sequences, the production utilized the expansive Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent, known for its historic buildings and versatile settings.
