Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of Homer’s Greek masterpiece, The Odyssey, is set for release on July 17, 2026, and was filmed across some of Europe’s most evocative landscape. Principal photography began in late February 2025, utilizing IMAX cameras to capture the sweeping drama in full grandeur.
The adventure first unfolded in Morocco, specifically at the iconic Aït Benhaddou—its ancient kasbahs serving as stand-ins for the mythical Old Kingdom. Production then shifted to Greece, where coastal locales in Messinia, including the ports of Katakolo and Pylos, doubled for scenes at sea and the Cyclops encounter on Voidokilia Beach. Crews also worked at Methoni Castle and the historic site of Acrocorinth.
By late March, the crew moved to Italy, filming on Sicilian gems: Favignana (one of the Egadi Islands) and the Aeolian Islands near Trapani provided dramatic island topography reminiscent of mythical Aeolia.
Nolan’s team later travells to Scotland, with additional scenes planned across the UK and possibly Iceland and Ireland.
